The most popular commercial software on the market is Business Plan Pro. This is by Palo Alto Software and there are UK, USA and Ireland editions. It's recognised by almost all but it's very expensive.
You do get a ton of free stuff (like 500 sample plans - although they are mostly very old) and is probably not for people wanting to prepare a simple plan. However, if you simply don't know where to start then perhaps this will be a good investment for you and your business.
Other software on the market is mainly USA focused and you may have problems with UK tax and VAT regulations.

The best place to start is to get free business planning software from the bank you are requesting your business loan from. All major banks offer a CD for you to complete and you'll be able to get guidance from them and it's in their format.
Business Plan Pro
Generally recommended throughout the world and the UK is Business Plan Pro. This software is built for Microsoft operating systems and is not suitable for Mac. You'll get asked questions along the way to complete all sections including marketing, SWOT analysis and sales forecasts by using the in-built wizards.
